Donnacha Mac Gloinn, a user on jomres other forum, was harassing, threatening, and bullying users online. He called the Portland Police on me, from his home town; some place in Ireland, to here; Portland, Oregon, to tell them I posted something on the forum, link below, that he did not like. I called the Portland Police to see what was going on after I saw what this fucken idiot posted on jomres forum. The police said as long as he is not losing any money. Otherwise, there is nothing they (Police) can do. Donnacha is a fucken idiot.

First, the post I wanted deleted is evidence against Donnacha Mac Gloinn and you for threatening me and my business, harassing me, and bullying me on your forum, PUBLICLY, and for NO reason whatsoever! The information I posted, on your forum, was removed by me (because I'm smart, not stupid like DD (Doofus Donnacha) and now Donnacha has no "evidence" to support his post. Did you know that? If you leave it up you and Donnacha will have headaches down-the-road from me because of this post. By Donnacha's post this is going to hurt you more then it will hurt him. Did you think about that? I'm no dummy and I'm well educated.


Sorry, but everything has to stay as it is. I was going to ask for a life time subscription to Jomres Zero Package for removing some links and a few post of mine that has to do with editing Jomres, and saving clients money, but I cannot because I would be committing a crime. Besides I can't get to your website so I guess there is no point in asking anyways. Storing files online is not a crime but posting threats, bullying, or harassing someone on a PUBLIC forum is.

Lets get you updated on why this is all happening to you:

1) First, it started with your online forum and the fact that you are unaware how Jomres works with different servers. I had problems using Jomres...crashes, errors, etc., and found out weeks or months later that Jomres can ONLY be run on a Solid State Server, not on a Hard Drive Server. Ten years you have been developing Jomres and you didn't know this?

2) Your new partner, Aladar Barthi, jomres-extras.com. I bought about a $100 (US) worth of his plugins and a month later you buy them. So now I have access to the plugins that you bought from Aladar. If I knew about you buying the plugins I would of saved $100 (US). I complaint but nothing happened. No refund.

3) Getting attacked, harassed, and users bullying me on your forum, even you!

4) Donnacha's post attacking me on your forum. You should of deleted them but you might of thought that this would be funny, right? Well, who's laughing now?

Let this be a learning experience for you: don't let your users attack other users, the same for you. If you don't like the post or thread, DELETE IT!

Also, find a better online vocabulary no matter if you don't like your user or not. Its always unprofessional to use profanity online.

I contacted the Oregon Construction Contractor Board who handles my business license and told them that I am being threaten and harassed on your forum. I sent them the same info about Donnacha Mac Gloinn that I sent you and the forum link. So they are aware of what is going on. I also told them to contact Portland Police and let them know that Donnacha Mac Gloinn is threatening me on your forum. Now its Donnacha Mac Gloinn turn, I need to make sure if the post I wanted deleted is going to stay or go. If it goes I have no evidence against Donnacha Mac Gloinn post, but if it stays I have evidence against Donnacha Mac Gloinn post.

I hope you're keeping quiet about this because if other people give you their advice and you used it, it might hurt you even more.

Why??
Because after you upgrade to Jomres 9.9.6 and your license expires you will NOT be able to use any of your core-plugs. Meaning that if you want to use Jomres 9.9.6 and beyond, you will have to pay for it.
As before, if your license expired you can still use Jomres and have access to ALL of its core-plugins.
Basically, you are renting this program as long as you want to use it. So if your site is not making any money, Vince still is!
Until this is fixed, I am not going to upgrade Jomres. I'll just use version 9.9.5.

As Vince already pointed out to you, what you claimed was entirely untrue, he double-checked to make sure he had not made some sort of mistake.
Unsurprisingly, Vince has not suddenly changed the Open Source business model that he has devoted 12 years of his life to. Jomres is still based upon the principle that, if you give something cool to the world, and let them use in any way they want, including customizing it or writing their own plugins, a small percentage may decide that it is worth paying $10 a month for access to the entirely optional plugins that provide further functionality ... on an unlimited number of websites!
If people don't want those plugins, no problem, they are still welcome to use Jomres in precisely the same way they did before. As I understand it, all the new plugin manager does is make Jomres more efficient because, now, you don't have each individual plugin pinging the server, and it also makes it easier for Vince to implement the encryption necessary when people want to have a free trial with all the paid plugins working, something that people want.

No, you have to have a valid license. If you already have one then it isn't a problem.
I haven't taken anything away from any existing users. That's not my Modus Operandi.
I regularly see tickets from users who bought Jomres back in 2006/7/8 ( ticket system doesn't go back further than that) who're still using the system today, without paying another penny towards it's maintenance and development. I continue to support them as I would any other user because back when they purchased a license they were promised lifetime licenses, and that's what I'll give them. I don't particularly like it, but a deal's a deal and I'll stand by my word.

Because you need a valid license to install Jomres plugins. Remember, ours is a Download and Support service. Installing a plugin means that you're utilising the "download" part of that service.

Whilst factually correct ( and legal) his post guides people on how to bypass the need to have a valid license key. This directly harms me and my team because it then deprives us of much needed income. I left the post in-situ ( although I probably shouldn't have ), against my better judgement because I genuinely don't want to be a bad person who hides everything he doesn't like.

No, Mark E doesn't use his head. He thinks like somebody who wants to solve a technical problem, or scoring points, instead of looking at the larger picture. I have consistently ignored his unsubtle jibes about this subject up until now because I didn't want to make Mark E look stupid, but now I guess I have to.
First, remember I've been maintaining this software for 13 years. This means that I have 13 years of daily experience of supporting users who want to make changes to it. In that time I've learned that sometimes it's wiser to give an answer to a user that's technically incorrect, but is nevertheless more suitable for the user themselves. Let me explain.
As the maintainer of the software, anytime a user asks a question I have to look at the nature of the question not simply as related to how to achieve whatever the user wants to achieve, but also why they want to achieve it. In the case of somebody wanting to rename com jomres to something else there is only one reason for wanting to do this.
The user wants to rename the component. The only reason for doing this is if they're planning on taking the software and claiming it as their own. Whilst legally allowed, I have a moral duty to the people I work with to ensure that this doesn't happen, and an ethical duty to other people who might want to have a booking system and decide to choose this second, probably cheaper, ripped off version. Jomres is a complex system, it requires reasonable technical skill to modify and maintain. Now, renaming the component is in fact easy to do, so if the ripper off-er can't even figure out this simple task, can we honestly expect them to maintain their ripped off version without introducing security vulnerabilities along the way? No. As a result, like I said, I have a duty to discourage it.
Ergo, instead of spending time on a user who has no intention of rewarding me and my team for our work by paying for the download service and/or support, I chose instead to post a response that would discourage them from making changes that would either hurt them, or somebody else, in the future.
BTW folks, John K is a sock puppet for Mark E, both Mark E's post and John K's post were made from the same IP number. John K has also been banned as a result.
I'm not going to lock this thread, as I welcome constructive and adult conversation. It may well be that I've made a mistake somewhere down the line, in which case I will own up and make any necessary changes. I'm human, mistakes happen, and I'm always willing to admit them when they do.
Despite my occasional frustrations with some users of the forum, I nevertheless place a great deal of value on dealing directly with (most of) you and hope that you'll reward me by feeding back your own thoughts ( assuming they're actually coherent ).

Portland Police Bureau say that online impersonation is a crime they take seriously, and that they do have details for a locksmith named Mark Errington.
They say that, as there has been no financial loss, my best course of action would be to register an objection with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board and ask for his license to be revoked on the basis of unethical behavior, which online impersonation certainly qualifies as. It has also been suggested that I should notify the providers of his general liability insurance, they have a right to know if a contractor they cover is displaying signs of mental illness.
This is a tough one for me. On the one had, I don't want to cost anyone their business, or even just part of how they make a living but, on the other hand, we have a duty not to allow someone of questionable moral character to remain in a position of trust. Someone who continues to harass an online community that he has already been banned from twice that day, well, is that the sort of man who should be trusted with access to someone else's house keys or vehicle?
Or perhaps we can now, after just two acts of online impersonation, just draw a line under this?

Just a reminder, this change remains consistent with my long-standing advice re updating, which boils down to "Don't update if your license has expired".

I assume Mark's license had expired, and he had decided that he was going to update anyway. I always advise against doing that because plugins often need to be updated at the same time because if a fundamental part of Jomres changes, then some or all plugins might stop working.
Mark's 9.9.5 installation would continue working until the cows came home, as I have already said, I haven't taken anything from existing users who had full licenses (Starter/Business/Enterprise).
* Anybody running 9.9.5 will still be able to use their installation, even when their license expires.
* Anybody who purchases a license for 9.9.6, or upgrades from 9.9.5 to 9.9.6 while their license is valid, then their installations will continue to work after their license expires.
Nothing has changed!
Now remember, the main reason for the encoding is so that users can have Trial licenses. The only root change here is to make it so just 3 files are encoded, unlike

I'd much prefer to sell subscriptions for an, on balance, less amount over a 6 month period than we sell them currently, but for longer terms. As a business we need that consistent income to stay afloat.
